the mountain was basalt.. which is zero fun for climbing... so.. I am building personal sized dirigibles.. including a small version for going to the store in.. large enough for a pilot and small dog.. Dr Punkin... might make your life easier, brother... fer sure... you can deliver a doctor, with nurse.. and operating room... and fly at the same time... I want children to be able to walk safely... my aircraft fall up... which means... slowing down and speeding up can be compensated with the water storage as balast... gimbal for level floors...and.. pulse jets.. forward and rear... the forward ones are like brakes... for sissies

I saw nothing that made me think there was something stressful going on. The first go around I saw that long rectangle strip off to the right and I said I guess that's a road. There's no way that's the landing strip! Yea that landing looked super sketchy. Did you make this vid to show us a trip to that location or were you there picking up passengers? (I've never been on your page before) - Also, those ATC guys always talk so fast us non flyers have no clue what they're saying. It was nice to see the subtitles.

I think that landing on an aircraft carrier in a storm at night with bad visibility and low fuel is slightly more stressful. Don't you think? And for good measure, one can add a flashing red warning light.

Why stress us out with midroll adds, I never let any of them run if I can catch them, I doubt anyone else does either, put two adds up front and two at the end, I will let them run, and I encourage others to do the same. Most of us multi task, a midroll add can run from 3 or 4 mins to an hour plus, usually louder than the video itself, with subject matter we usually don't care about, when they come on we have to stop, run to the pc ,and shut it down. Midroll adds drive viewers to add free subscriptions and add free browsers, which diverts / eliminates the revenue stream away from content providers / channel owners.

I flew my Maule M5-235C regularly into what was essentially a 1500 foot strip with a 300 foot drop off on both ends at my house. I never took passengers with me. My neighbor wrecked two planes doing it, but I think he may have been drinking both times. Maules aren't turbo props, but they are tough and can perform with some practice. Nice landing in your video. Watch the landing and takeoff in the opening of CANNONBALL RUN. I think there is a clip of it on KGglobal. Stay safe.

if there wasn't sny captions, i coudn't understand around 70% of things being said with air control (100% loss on air control's side)... being a pilot seems like it might take some intelligence... it's a wonder more landing mistakes don't happen, as, in my experience, a surprising number of gen pop are astoundingly non-cerebral.

Brilliant commentary from start up to landing. An excellent missed approach and a well executed landing the second time around on what appears like a very slippery wet strip. I was looking forward to your take off but in any case, did you wait for the grass strip to dry up a little prior to T/O? I have done some limited flying as a private pilot around cities and towns in Goroka, Wuvulu, Bulolo, Fly River, Gobe, POM, Daru and Australia of course. Thank you for sharing. As a former Air Force pilot, and now corporate pilot, I only wish someone had steered me toward missions flying when I got out of the Air Force to attend seminary. Thank you for your ministry through aviation! Also, love what Quest initially did -- don't know if they're still doing it -- in developing the Kodiak specifically with missions aviation in mind, and supplying aircraft at cost as often as possible, to missions aviation organizations.

Thanks for bringin' back those memories my friend! I've been working in PNG 30 years ago and I once had a flight with MAF from Nomane back to Goroka in, what I suppose, was the standard-cargo-Cessna or so. Startet in a thunderstorm (sic!) on the airfield in Nomane in an overloaded plane (sic!), landing in Goroka 10 Minutes after official last light (sic again!) After that I investigated a bit about that pilot and found out he was the only pilot in whole PNG who was allowed to land on Nomane Airfield with a Twin Otter... Tenkyu tru, pren. Mi lukim piksa bilong yu na mi amamas tru!

To my untrained eye it always appears that the pilot's line of sight is barely above the top of the instrument panel. Like they would have a hard time having a full view of what is directly in front of them. Sort of like a very short driver barely seeing over the cars steering wheel. From those who know please explain if I am missing something. Thank you.

During my time serving as an aircraft technician with the Royal Canadian Air Force, I spent three years on an isolated posting to 440 Transport Squadron, in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Yellowknife is a small city in Canada’s Arctic. During my time there, I was involved in various forms of missions, and exercises. This gave me the opportunity to experience some of the most terrifying landings, and take offs imaginable. Our squadron’s only operations aircraft was a fleet of five venerable DeHavilland Twin Otters. The incredible STOL characteristics of the Twin meant nearly any short strip of semi-level open land could serve as a “runway”. While the strip in this video is far from ideal, it is much better than the horrific pseudo “runways” our squadron’s pilot’s viewed as “acceptable”. I’ve been on missions where we landed on the very small island (gravel bar) where the crew of the Franklin Expedition met their horrific end. Even the mighty Twin had a hard time getting wheels off the ground on that one, actually being literally thrown into the air by a massive dip in the gravel near the end on the strip. Or the time we landed at the NASA MARS research site, on a landing strip with a 14 degree uphill slope. But by far, the most terrifying was the time we landed on jagged sea ice, 200km out over the Arctic Ocean, in the midst of a pretty good blizzard. Landing was what I’d call very rough. One of the plane’s ceiling panels even came loose, hitting both myself, and the female technician seated behind me in the head. After a short time messing around on the ice, and marvelling in the fact we were standing on the Arctic Ocean, a mere 300km from the actual North Pole, it was mentioned that we should probably return to base, as the storm seemed to be intensifying. Two minutes after we re-entered the plane, the pilots gunned the throttles, setting off the scariest 45 seconds of my entire life. Because we had the aircraft in the ski configuration, there was none of the usual shock absorption provided by the big, balloon tires which are normally installed. Due to this, every bit of the energy created by hitting jagged sea ice at an increasing level of speed is transferred directly to the 40+ year old airframe you are now convinced will become your ice encrusted Arctic tomb. I cannot begin to describe the massive impacts that plane was taking, and as a result, our bodies were taking as well. We were bouncing so bad, you’d think the plane had finally taken flight, only to slam down again. This time, not only the panel above me fell down, but every panel in the passenger compartment. I watched as the Twin’s cartoonishly large wings flexed up and down, further than I ever would have considered possible. Then, after approximately 45 seconds of pure terror, we peacefully lifted into the air. I’ve never been so happy to be off the ground in my life. I skipped the remainder of flight “opportunities” offered by our incredible pilots on that particular exercise, choosing to instead make inroads with the cute little tech who had been seated behind me during that horrific take-off. Although I missed the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stand upon the North Pole, I do not regret my choice, as two years later, that cute little technician became my wife. We are still happily married twelve years later, and often fondly reminisce about that time on the Arctic Ocean when we thought we were going to die.
